Hello. My name is Clare Reeves. I am the new counsellor for HFACT.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you.
I am married to Warren and have two adult sons, one daughter-in-law
and two grandchildren. I have been a counsellor working within the
Canberra community for the past twenty years, mainly with the Royal
Blind Society, and also with Combrook Rehabilitation. Both these
positions involved considerable liaison and interaction with clients,
their families, general practitioners, specialists, community nurses,
employers, psychologists and a range of support agencies. I have also
had liaison with pain management personnel at Royal North Shore
Hospital, (Sydney) and physiotherapists, particularly within the ACT,
dealing with conditions relating to chronic pain reduction.
For the past four and a half years, Warren and I have been in Samoa.
We returned in December 2003. During my time in Samoa, I was involved
with helping Samoans set up a suicide prevention counselling service.
This has now become incorporated with Lifeline International. I was also
involved with the organisation, Habitat for Humanity, which provides
low-cost housing to low income families. This involved assessing
families in their home environment within villages. I also assisted the
Nutrition Centre, based in the National Hospital, to set up some
strategies for opening up lines of communication with their clients and
with various wards in the hospital.
I will be working two days a week; Wednesday and Thursday, but I
would be happy to meet you on other days if the need arises. I plan to
be at the Haemophilia Clinic at Canberra Hospital each Thursday. If you
are coming to the clinic, please let me know and I will do my best to be
there when you come in.
In the next few weeks, I will make contact with all who are on the
HFACT address list. I look forward to meeting with you, getting to know
you, assisting you when you require it and learning heaps more from you
about haemophilia. For those of you who aren't on the Haemophilia list I
would welcome hearing from you.
Please feel free to contact me on 0409 830472, or at the clinic. You
can also email me at Counsellor@hfact.org.au.
Thank you for welcoming me into your community.
